OSI Maritime Systems has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with TKMS to support the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project. The agreement establishes a collaborative framework to explore opportunities in systems integration and maritime capability development.

The Canadian Patrol Submarine Project is a Government of Canada procurement initiative to replace the Royal Canadian Navy’s Victoria-class submarines. The project aims to procure up to 12 submarines to support sustained operations in the Atlantic, Pacific and Arctic regions.

Under the agreement, OSI and TKMS intend to establish a framework for technical and commercial dialogue. The work will explore the integration of OSI’s ECPINS navigation software into TKMS naval platforms for the purposes of the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project.

ECPINS was developed in Canada. OSI said it is the only third-party Warship Electronic Chart Display and Information System solution type approved to NATO STANAG 4564.

The software is deployed across 18 classes of submarines. It is currently in service on more than 60 submarines operated by NATO and allied navies worldwide.

The countries operating the software include Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Sweden, the Netherlands, Chile, Singapore, Indonesia, South Africa and Brazil. OSI described ECPINS as a made-in-Canada solution for advanced tactical submarine navigation.

“This MOU reflects OSI’s enthusiasm for the objectives of Canada’s Defence Industrial Strategy by strengthening domestic capability, fostering innovation, and building strategic partnerships,” said Jim Girard, President & CEO, OSI Maritime Systems. “Through our collaboration with TKMS, we are creating a pathway to ensure our navy is sailing with the best-class submarine navigation suite.”
