Palantir secures $48 million Army software contract to modernize ammunition tracking and retire nine legacy systems

The U.S. Army has awarded Palantir USG Inc. a $48.1 million firm-fixed-price delivery order to develop a software platform for tracking and managing ammunition across the enterprise. The new system will replace nine existing Army ammunition software platforms and provide a single authoritative view of munitions assets and processes.

The competitively awarded order establishes a 12-month base period for Palantir to develop, configure and field the system’s core capabilities. The contract also includes up to five optional years for continued optimisation and scaling.

The Army selected Palantir through a three-phase competitive process completed in six weeks under the Army Open Solicitation. The first phase assessed solution briefs for relevance, innovation, scalability and feasibility, followed by live capability demonstrations and then formal proposals.

Vendors were evaluated on their ability to integrate information from disparate legacy systems and provide planning and forecasting models. The Army also assessed whether proposed solutions could support tactical users operating in disconnected or low-bandwidth environments.

The new platform will replace systems including the Standard Army Ammunition System – Modernization, Aviation and Missile Command Ammunition Tracking System and Ammunition Supply Point Management System. It will also replace the Industrial Base Assessment Tool, Lifecycle Management Solutions for rockets, missiles and launcher systems, Munitions History Program, Munitions Items Disposition Action System, Price Budget and Execution Suite, and Stockpile Inventory List Comparator.

Palantir’s system will use commercial low-code and no-code technology to provide end-to-end visibility across the ammunition lifecycle. The platform will cover planning, production, procurement, storage, surveillance, distribution, expenditure and final disposition.

The Army said the system is one element of a broader effort to modernise ammunition management and retire legacy software. It is also intended to improve audit readiness by consolidating ammunition information and processes within a single enterprise platform.
