Patria said it is prepared to support Lithuania’s plans to acquire modern 6x6 armoured personnel carriers through potential participation in the Common Armoured Vehicle System programme. The Finnish defence company said the CAVS programme could provide Lithuania with proven vehicle performance and long-term industrial and operational benefits.

The company said the programme would also support joint innovation and continuous development with partner countries. Patria described technology transfer as a central part of its business model for armoured vehicles.

Under this model, armoured vehicle manufacturing expertise is transferred to local partners. Patria said this can improve security of supply, strengthen Lithuania’s own industry and provide a strategic competitive advantage.

The CAVS programme is based on using the strengths of each participating country’s industry. It also relies on close cross-border cooperation between the nations involved.

“The Patria team has already worked locally with Lithuanian industry for over a year, and the collaboration has been very positive and active,” said Jussi Järvinen, Patria’s Executive Vice President of Protected Mobility.

“We are very pleased on Lithuania’s decision to opt for the Patria 6×6 armoured vehicle platform through potential participation in the CAVS programme. Our ambition is to build a long-term partnership with Lithuania,” Järvinen said.

“Patria has decades of proven expertise in the development of armoured vehicles and successful technology transfers across three continents and seven countries,” Järvinen said.

“We have held extensive discussions with various Lithuanian industry and potential partners across development, manufacturing, and maintenance capability, and Lithuania has all the needed capabilities for technology transfer,” he added.

The CAVS programme was launched in 2020 through cooperation between Finland and Latvia. It aims to deliver a joint, modern 6×6 armoured vehicle system based on the Patria 6×6 vehicle.

The programme now includes Finland, Latvia, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Germany and the United Kingdom. Deliveries have been made to Finland, Sweden, Latvia, Denmark and Germany, and the vehicles are also operational in Ukraine.

Patria said the CAVS programme allows participating nations to acquire modern armoured vehicles in a timely and cost-effective manner. Its common approach supports shared procurement, coordinated product development and efficient life-cycle management.

The programme remains open to European and NATO nations with comparable 6×6 armoured vehicle requirements. Patria said Lithuania’s potential participation would fit within this multinational framework.
