Following the expansion, the production capacity at the Hämeenlinna facility is expected to nearly double. Construction preparations are already underway, with full operational readiness anticipated by 2027.
“Patria’s order stock has grown significantly, and strong demand is particularly based on Patria’s armoured vehicle projects,” said Mikko Leino, Executive Vice President, Operations at Patria. “With the expansion of the Hämeenlinna production facility, we want to speed up the delivery of current orders, but also prepare for new orders and production of new products, including weapon systems and tracked vehicle manufacturing.”
Leino also emphasised the broader strategic impact of the move, stating, “The investment is also an important part of strengthening the EU’s Defence Technological and Industrial Base (EDTIB).” The expansion supports Patria’s long-term role in European defence collaboration.
Patria has already secured orders for over 800 of its Patria 6×6 vehicles under the Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) programme, with more than 200 delivered to date. The programme is a joint effort involving Finland, Latvia, Sweden and Germany, and has drawn growing interest from other European nations.
Alongside the 6×6, Patria is also advancing its AMV XP 8×8 vehicle projects, which are currently underway in Slovakia and Japan. These platforms continue to demonstrate Patria’s global competitiveness in modern armoured mobility solutions.
In addition to Hämeenlinna, Patria produces 6×6 vehicles at its Valmiera facility in Latvia, which began operations in May 2024. Typically, early-phase vehicle deliveries are carried out at Patria’s own sites, while large-scale production leverages the capabilities of local industries in customer countries.
