According to the Pentagon, the contract is expected to be fulfilled by the end of April 2030. General Dynamics will be responsible for delivering the specified rounds over the contract period.
The IM HE-T (Insensitive Munition High Explosive-Tracer) round is designed to engage targets such as fortified structures, lightly armoured vehicles, and infantry formations. It is equipped with a dual-mode, manually-set fuze, allowing the tank crew to determine the point of detonation for improved effectiveness of the high-explosive fragmentation warhead.
The U.S. Department of Defense has not disclosed the number of rounds to be delivered under the agreement. The deal represents a continued investment in sustaining the firepower capabilities of the Abrams tank fleet.
