On March 28, the 1st Warsaw Armoured Brigade of the Polish Land Forces announced via social media that it had received a new batch of M1A1 Abrams main battle tanks. This unit is stationed on the eastern outskirts of Warsaw, the capital of Poland.

According to open sources, the Polish Armed Forces have already received 69 of the total 116 M1A1 Abrams main battle tanks purchased from the United States.

The contract schedule stipulates that the remaining 47 tanks will be delivered to Poland by the end of this year.

In January 2023, Poland signed an intergovernmental agreement with the United States (Letter of Offer and Acceptance) for the delivery of 116 M1A1 Abrams main battle tanks to the Polish Armed Forces.

This contract includes the procurement of 12 M88A2 Hercules recovery vehicles, eight M1074 Joint Assault Bridges, six M577A3 command vehicles, and 26 NG SECM (Next Generation Shop Equipment Contact Maintenance) units.

The agreement is valued at USD 1.4 billion, with USD 200 million of this amount being financed by the American government. Upon completion of the M1A1 Abrams deliveries, the Polish Land Forces will have two tank battalions equipped with these tanks.

In April 2022, Poland signed a contract worth USD 4.75 billion with the United States for 250 M1A2 SEPv3 Abrams main battle tanks, with deliveries expected in 2026.
