The exact number of rounds ordered has not been disclosed by either party. However, both Mesko and the defence agency confirmed that the contract provides for the delivery of “thousands” of APFSDS-T rounds for main battle tanks.
According to Mesko, the contract is valued at approximately PLN 150 million (EUR 35.2 million), with deliveries expected to be completed between 2026 and 2027.
In a statement, Mesko noted that the newly contracted APFSDS-T ammunition will enable the Polish Armed Forces to engage armoured targets at ranges of “a few” kilometres. Open sources indicate that the maximum effective range of the round is approximately 2,500 metres.
This type of ammunition is compatible with all Leopard 2 main battle tanks currently in service with the Polish Armed Forces. From a technical standpoint, certification for use with the M1A2 SEPv3 Abrams is considered feasible, although no official confirmation of such a process has been issued.
Mesko is one of Poland’s leading defence companies and is well recognised in the international defence market as the manufacturer of the combat-proven, shoulder-launched Piorun anti-aircraft missile system.
