By Defence Industry Europe

On 12 August, Huta Stalowa Wola (HSW), a subsidiary of Poland’s state-owned defence industry group PGZ, signed a contract with the American company Raytheon for the production of 48 M903 launchers for Patriot air and missile defence systems, which will be operated in the future by the Polish Armed Forces.

According to Poland’s Ministry of National Defence, the agreement is valued at USD 1.23 billion. All 48 launchers are scheduled to be delivered to Raytheon between 2027 and 2029. Under this contract, the Polish defence company HSW will act as a subcontractor to the American defence giant Raytheon, which is the prime contractor for the delivery of the Patriot air and missile defence systems to the Polish Armed Forces.

In September 2023, under phase II of the Wisła programme, Poland signed three contracts with the U.S. government to acquire a package of PAC-3 MSE interceptors, 48 M903 launchers, and 12 LTAMDS radars. These contracts, collectively valued at USD 9.3 billion, are scheduled for delivery by 2029.

Notably, in 2023, Poland also signed a contract with the United States for phase I of the Wisła programme. This USD 4.6 billion contract covers the delivery of 16 M903 launchers, four AN/MPQ-65 radars, 208 PAC-3 MSE interceptors, and other elements of the Patriot air defence system.

Additionally, in February 2024, the Polish Ministry of National Defence signed a USD 2.5 billion contract for the Integrated Battle Command System (IBCS), with deliveries scheduled from 2024 to 2031. The Polish Armed Forces intend to use the IBCS system to build an integrated, multi-layered air and missile defence system.
