Rheinmetall has delivered artillery ammunition to Ukraine from its Unterlüß site for the first time, expanding the role of its German production network in supplying the Ukrainian armed forces. The first delivery from Unterlüß comprises a low five-figure number of projectiles, alongside propellant charges produced at other Rheinmetall sites.

The company said more than half of the order has already been delivered. The remaining projectiles and propellant charges are scheduled to follow by the end of 2026.

The shipment also marks the first delivery to Ukraine of projectiles produced at Rheinmetall’s new Werk Niedersachsen, or Lower Saxony plant. Until now, Rheinmetall’s ammunition deliveries to Ukraine had come from other sites within the group’s production network.

The projectiles being supplied are RH1412 rounds, the latest product in Rheinmetall’s artillery portfolio. The company said they can be fired from various 155 mm weapon systems and offer long range and high effectiveness.

Rheinmetall said the order underlines its expertise in artillery systems at a time of rising demand for 155 mm ammunition and propellant charges. The Düsseldorf-based defence group said it is continuing to invest heavily in expanding existing facilities and establishing new production sites.

Rheinmetall is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of large-calibre ammunition. Since 2022, the company has been increasing production capacity and aims to produce around 1.5 million 155 mm artillery projectiles annually by 2030.
