The agreement covers propulsion support, capability development and contributions to Saab’s international Gripen campaigns. It sets out how the companies will work together on engines and propulsion, with the aim of strengthening the aircraft’s offering for Sweden and overseas customers.
“Gripen is one of the world’s most advanced fighter aircraft systems,” said Sara Eklöf, senior vice-president for Governmental Solutions – defence and space at GKN Aerospace. “This agreement strengthens our collaboration with Saab and expands GKN Aerospace’s role in supporting the long-term development of the Gripen E/F propulsion system.”
GKN Aerospace already maintains Gripen engines and provides technical support in Sweden. The deal extends that cooperation to long-term capability development and broader support for current and future Gripen operators.
“Gripen is built on strong industrial partnerships,” said Johan Segertoft, head of Saab’s Gripen Business Unit. “By deepening our collaboration with GKN Aerospace, we strengthen the conditions for continued development, high availability for our customers and a competitive offering in the global market.”
The companies will continue exploring ways to strengthen Sweden’s long-term capability related to the Gripen E/F engine. GKN Aerospace also holds the type certificate for the RM12 engine, which powers the Gripen C/D fleet.
