Sweden and Poland sign strategic partnership to bolster Baltic Sea defence and security

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk signed a new strategic partnership agreement, solidifying closer ties between the two nations. The agreement focuses on enhancing cooperation in security and defence, innovation, and competitiveness.

 

“Closer cooperation on security and defence in a broad sense is the foundation of the renewed strategic partnership between Sweden and Poland. We intend to work jointly to strengthen security in the Baltic Sea region and address the threat that Russia presents,” stated Prime Minister Kristersson.

Bilateral discussions during the meeting included preparations for Poland’s upcoming Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2025 and key EU agenda items. The leaders also addressed current security challenges, including sustained support for Ukraine amidst ongoing conflict.

 

 

Representatives from the business sector participated in talks aimed at strengthening European competitiveness. Discussions centred on advancing the defence industry and fostering progress in the green and digital transitions, aligning with shared strategic priorities.
