The Australian Government has announced a new AUD$45 million contract with Thales Australia to acquire an additional 15 Bushmaster Protected Mobility Vehicles (PMVs). The contract was revealed by the Minister for Defence Industry, Pat Conroy MP, highlighting the significance of advanced vehicle manufacturing in Bendigo, Victoria.

The Bushmaster PMV, produced at Thales’ Protected Vehicle Centre of Excellence in Bendigo, supports 250 local jobs and another 300 jobs across Thales Australia’s supply chain. This investment reinforces the Albanese Government’s commitment to regional industry and the creation of jobs while ensuring the Australian Defence Force (ADF) is equipped to deter potential threats.

The additional Bushmasters will enhance the command and control capabilities of the Army’s High Mobility Artillery Rocket System, accelerating the ADF’s land-based long-range fires capability.

Jeff Connolly, CEO of Thales Australia and New Zealand, praised the government’s support, calling it a vote of confidence in the Bendigo workforce and the Bushmaster vehicles, which are combat-proven and used by nine countries, including Ukraine.

Minister Conroy emphasized the government’s commitment to Australian-made defense solutions, stating, “This investment is another example of the Albanese Government’s dedication to a future made in Australia.”

Thales in Australia employs over 4,300 people and supports more than 2,000 jobs through its Australian supply chain, playing a vital role in the country’s defense capabilities across land, sea, and air.
