The lab will integrate communications products and develop services directly with Danish defense users, incorporating operational feedback and real-world constraints into the development process. Thales said the model is designed to allow technologies to be scaled rapidly while remaining aligned with customer timelines and operational requirements.
The facility will also support the integration of equipment selected by the Danish Armed Forces, including legacy systems, so that different components can operate effectively together and maintain battlefield connectivity. Thales said this approach is intended to build local expertise, transfer critical technology and know-how, and strengthen Denmark’s defense industrial base.

This investment reflects our long-term commitment to Denmark and to the Danish defence industrial base.”
The Connectivity Lab is a key element of a strategic partnership agreement between the Danish Armed Forces and Thales Denmark covering operational digital communications systems. The agreement is intended to support the development and integration of increasingly complex communications technologies and digital networks.
“The establishment of a Connectivity Lab is a key element of the strategic partnership agreement between the Danish Armed Forces and Thales Denmark, which covers the delivery of operational digital communication systems,” said Colonel Thomas Øgendahl Knudsen, Director of the Land Systems Division at DALO. “Today operational communication systems and digital networks are highly advanced and complex by nature, and this places equally high demands on access to advanced test facilities. The Connectivity Lab gives the Danish Armed Forces access to such a facility locally, in Denmark, where several systems are developed and integrated.”
Thales said the lab could eventually support expansion into other national domains and create export opportunities to partner countries. The company said such growth would further contribute to strengthening Denmark’s defense industrial base.
Thales has operated in Denmark since 1973 and provides technologies across defense, civil aviation, cyber and digital markets throughout the Kingdom of Denmark, including the Faroe Islands and Greenland. The company currently employs 100 people at its facilities in Ballerup and Lyngby.
