The first units will be delivered in the third quarter of 2024, with several hundred more to follow by 2027. Thales and KNDS have worked together to adapt the SSPDB solution to meet the specific power requirements of the Leopard 2A8.
The SSPDBs, rated up to 160A per channel, offer intelligent power management through pre-programmed profiles or real-time selections. Thales will focus on key performance areas such as Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) to ensure the system meets demanding mission needs, the company said in a statement.
“With an expertise of more than 20 years, Thales is a global leader in the development and manufacture of Power Systems for protected vehicles. We are proud to have been awarded this contract by KNDS and are confident that this strong partnership will continue,” said Martin Bernhardsgrütter, Country Director, Thales Switzerland.
