U.S. Army places $27.6 million order for Oshkosh Medium Equipment Trailers

By Defence Industry Europe

Oshkosh Defense has announced a $27.6 million order from the U.S. Army for 55 Medium Equipment Trailers (METs), marking the third Low-Rate Initial Production (LRIP) order under a five-year IDIQ contract awarded in November 2023. The METs are developed in collaboration with Dutch manufacturer Broshuis B.V. to support the Army’s modernisation and evolving logistical needs.

The MET is a six-axle drop deck trailer designed to operate with the Oshkosh Enhanced Heavy Equipment Transporter System (EHETS) M1300 tractor. It is capable of carrying combat vehicles weighing up to 60 tons and meets European Highway Road Network Accessibility requirements for 45-ton payloads.

The trailer supports the transport of critical U.S. Army platforms, including the Bradley, Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle (AMPV), Paladin Self-Propelled Howitzer, and Field Artillery Ammunition Support Vehicles (FAASV). It is built for global operations, equipped to manoeuvre under four-metre overpasses and ford water obstacles with its hydraulically adjustable suspension.

“The MET is another example of how Oshkosh Defense delivers forward-thinking solutions to complex logistics challenges,” said Pat Williams, Chief Programs Officer at Oshkosh Defense. “In an era where speed and mobility can define mission success, the MET stands out as a vital asset for maintaining a credible and responsive force posture.”

The trailer is designed for operational effectiveness in contested logistics environments by enabling the swift, dependable transport of essential equipment. Its rugged construction, high payload capacity, and interoperability with key systems enhance battlefield mobility and resilience.

The MET programme recently completed Government Production Verification Testing (PVT) several months ahead of schedule. Oshkosh and Broshuis are scheduled to produce the current order of trailers through to June 2026.
