U.S. Army selects AEVEX, Anduril and Raytheon for launched effects-short range demonstration

By Defence Industry Europe

The U.S. Army has chosen AEVEX Aerospace, Anduril Industries, and Raytheon to participate in a special user demonstration of the Launched Effects-Short Range (LE-SR) system. Each company will present its own solution—Atlas, Altius 600, and Coyote Block 3 respectively—as part of this key development phase.

Known as the LE-SR Special User Demonstration (SUD), the exercise is designed to refine how these emerging capabilities are integrated into real-world operations. Soldiers from field artillery, infantry, and aviation units will test the systems and provide hands-on feedback to inform tactical deployment and system development.

“The LE-SR user demonstration is an important step forward in developing launched effects capabilities,” said Brig. Gen. David Phillips, Program Executive Officer, Aviation. “We are excited to work with our industry partners putting their systems in the hand of Soldiers to evaluate their performance and identify areas for improvement.”

Launched Effects are modular systems that combine air vehicles, payloads, mission software, and support equipment, capable of operating autonomously or semi-autonomously. The LE-SR variant is intended to be lightweight and agile, delivering precise, threat-focused responses in complex environments.

“Direct Soldier feedback provided through the LE-SR user demonstration will inform not only continuous LE requirement refinement but also our future warfighting concepts and employment use cases,” said Brig. Gen. Cain Baker, Director of the Future Vertical Lift Cross Functional Team.

In addition to the demonstration, the Army will begin a separate prototyping initiative later this year to integrate current industry solutions for LE-SR systems, sensors, and payloads. Coordinated through the Aviation and Missile Technology Consortium, this effort has already attracted interest from 12 vendors.

The LE-SR programme represents a significant evolution in how the Army plans to enhance battlefield agility and situational awareness. It reflects a broader commitment to adapting quickly to changing threats and preparing forces for future operational challenges.
