The United States Department of State has approved a potential sale of the latest AIM-120D3 AMRAAM air-to-air missiles to the Netherlands, along with additional equipment and support services.

According to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), the estimated value of the sale is up to USD 807 million. The package includes up to 226 AIM-120D3 AMRAAM missiles, a comprehensive array of related equipment, software, and support services.

The AMRAAM air-to-air missiles are manufactured by RTX Corporation, a major player in the American defense industry. Unofficial reports indicate that the AIM-120D3 variant has an extended range of approximately 120 kilometers.

In a press release, DSCA stated, “This proposed sale will support the foreign policy goals and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a NATO Ally that is a force for political stability and economic progress in Europe.”

The agency also emphasized the benefits to Dutch defense capabilities, noting that the sale will enable the Netherlands to meet current and future threats. “The proposed sale will enhance the Netherlands’ capability to provide advanced, all-weather, beyond-visual-range air-to-air defense, protecting Dutch and Allied forces during transitions or combat. It will also significantly strengthen the Dutch contribution to NATO requirements. The Netherlands already operates AMRAAM missiles and will have no difficulty integrating these new articles into its armed forces,” DSCA added.
