ASELSAN signs agreements to provide Azerbaijan with advanced defence solutions

Turkey's leading defence company, ASELSAN, has strengthened its position in the global defence sector by signing a series of critical agreements at the Azerbaijan Defense Exhibition (ADEX) in Baku. The company has deepened its cooperation with Azerbaijan through joint production and technology transfer initiatives.

At ADEX 2024, ASELSAN concluded strategic agreements that pave the way for new partnerships. These included deals with the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence on communication and information security systems, and Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with the National Aerospace Agency (MAKA) for electronic warfare and the Ministry of Defence Industry’s Scientific Research Institution (ETI) for the joint production of ASELSAN’s smart munitions. Furthermore, ASELSAN finalised the sale of its ASELFLIR-500 system and TOLUN munitions, which are integrated into AKINCI drones, during the exhibition.

A highlight of the first day was the visit of President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan to ASELSAN’s booth, where he was introduced to the capabilities of the ASELFLIR-500 Electro-Optical Reconnaissance, Surveillance, and Targeting System. This next-generation system, developed after a Canadian embargo on drone cameras, is designed for use on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and was showcased with a live demonstration for the first time at an international event.

Alongside the ASELFLIR-500, ASELSAN presented a wide array of advanced systems, including air platform payloads, radars, guided munitions, and border security solutions. Key displays featured the Tactical Field Communication System (TASMUS), the SAGER-100 Thermal Sight for the KORNET-E Anti-Tank Guided Missile, the ÅžAHÄ°N 40 mm physical destruction system, and the Mobile Search Radar (MAR). Additionally, ASELSAN introduced its Steel Dome concept and related components.

Ahmet Akyol, ASELSAN’s President and CEO, commented on the company’s longstanding presence in Azerbaijan, emphasising the importance of their 30-year relationship, bolstered by the establishment of ASELSAN Baku. He stated, “As part of our enduring ties with Azerbaijan, we are elevating our partnership in the defence sector to a new level, with a focus on joint production and technology transfer. Our cooperation will continue to thrive under the principle of ‘One Nation, Two States.’”
