The joint venture seeks to modernise the cruise, defence and port infrastructure sectors through cutting-edge digital technologies such as artificial intelligence and advanced data integration. It will play a key role in delivering the strategic objectives set out in Fincantieri Group’s Industrial Plan.
By merging Accenture’s capabilities in AI, IoT, cybersecurity and digital platforms with Fincantieri’s engineering expertise in naval sectors, the partnership will focus on building new skills and attracting talent in maritime innovation. Among its flagship initiatives is the development of Navis Sapiens, a digital ecosystem designed to serve both new and existing ship fleets.
Navis Sapiens will include a suite of applications to improve efficiency and lifecycle management of vessels and port infrastructure, supported by a robust digital platform with strong cybersecurity features. It will also introduce a marketplace for third-party services, enabling new business models within the maritime sector.
The first vessel to feature Navis Sapiens is expected to launch by the end of 2025, signalling a major step in the digitalisation of naval operations. Alongside this, the joint venture plans to introduce a sea-to-shore data connectivity system to enhance real-time communication between ships, ports and shipyards.
This interoperability initiative is designed to increase process efficiency across maritime and land-based operations, ultimately strengthening the competitiveness of Italian ports. All developments will prioritise environmental sustainability, focusing on data-driven methods to reduce energy consumption and emissions.
Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO and General Manager of Fincantieri, stated: “With Fincantieri Ingenium, we strengthen our leadership position in technological innovation applied to shipbuilding and the naval engineering industry.” He added: “Thanks to the synergy with Accenture, we will develop cutting-edge solutions that will make our ships and infrastructures increasingly connected, efficient and sustainable.”
Teodoro Lio, Market Unit Lead for ICEG and CEO of Accenture Italy, said: “This marks a significant step forward in maritime innovation and is a tangible example of collaboration between two organisations committed to transforming the market.” He concluded: “With Fincantieri Ingenium, we are combining our respective strengths to shape new operating models that will transform maritime operations through innovative technologies.”
