The partnership was formalised on Monday, 14th October, at the BSC headquarters in Barcelona, where Indra’s Chairman, Marc Murtra, and BSC Director, Mateo Valero, signed the agreement. This collaboration will focus on supercomputing, artificial intelligence (AI), and quantum technologies—areas critical for the Next Generation Weapon System (NGWS) and Future Combat Air System (FCAS) programme, an initiative supported by Spain, France, and Germany.
The protocol will facilitate the exchange of scientific and technical knowledge, staff training, and the identification of synergies and partnerships. These efforts are intended to support other strategic dual-technology programmes, contributing to the development of new supercomputing infrastructures, as well as cutting-edge software and hardware to address increasingly complex challenges.
Indra’s Chairman, Marc Murtra, emphasised that collaboration between the industrial and scientific ecosystems is essential for leading major technological programmes across Europe. He believes this partnership will significantly advance strategic autonomy, reinforcing the ability to shape the future while ensuring societal well-being.
BSC Director, Mateo Valero, highlighted the increasing complexity of engineering systems, which demand powerful digital tools and computing capabilities. He stated that the agreement aims to establish a “system of systems” approach within the innovation ecosystem, bolstering technological sovereignty for Spain and Europe.
The agreement sets up a continuous communication channel between Indra and BSC, allowing both entities to collaborate on various areas of technological depth. Potential collaborations include simulation, modelling, AI research, hardware architecture development, and quantum computing, all of which are key to advancing high-performance and distributed environments.
