The contracts are aimed at maintaining submarine detection capabilities as undersea competition intensifies. The systems are designed to provide extended detection range and enhanced situational awareness for submarine commanders.
The TB-29C and TB-34A are passive sonar arrays used to detect and track underwater threats. Their deployment supports operational effectiveness in environments where acoustic detection remains critical.
“The awards reflect the Navy’s confidence in L3Harris’ ability to deliver the critical undersea systems that protect our sailors and maintain America’s undersea advantage,” said Nino DiCosmo. “Our sustained investment in specialized facilities and our skilled workforce ensure the submarine fleet has the capabilities needed to counter evolving threats.”
The contracts ensure continuity in the production of towed array systems across the decade. This is intended to preserve industrial capabilities and maintain a stable supply chain for mission-critical components.
L3Harris said its manufacturing infrastructure supports the full production cycle, from hydrophone assembly to system integration and testing. Each system undergoes quality assurance and environmental testing prior to delivery.
The company said its long-standing experience in undersea systems supports reliable and timely delivery of operational equipment. The approach is designed to ensure systems meet the requirements of modern submarine operations.
L3Harris added that its production capacity and technical expertise position it to support fleet modernisation efforts. These include programmes involving Columbia- and Virginia-class submarines.
The company said its supply chain, workforce development and manufacturing capabilities allow it to respond to evolving operational needs. The contracts are intended to support continued undersea advantage for the United States and its allies.
