The collaborative combat drone is being developed by MBDA’s French and German operations with Spanish partner SATNUS under the NGWS programme. It is designed to accompany fighters and other platforms, carrying out escort, reconnaissance and direct engagement of high-value targets.
Before the review, the teams completed the demonstrator’s design, produced representative mock-ups and developed a digital twin. Ground testing covered subsystems, integration and structural integrity, alongside wind tunnel trials.
The teams also used simulations to characterise the vehicle and validate its digital models and initial algorithms. MBDA said the work demonstrated performance across a range of scenarios.
Representatives from all three countries took part in demonstrations and reviews during the first half of the year. MBDA presented its findings at technical meetings in Spain, France and Germany, gathering feedback from customers, including experienced pilots from the three air forces.
The Remote Carrier Compact is intended to support fighters, drones, weapons and other crewed platforms during complex air combat missions. Its design allows for a range of military effects rather than a single operational role.
MBDA said the initial framework of the NGWS programme is coming to an end. The company reaffirmed its commitment to the Remote Carrier Compact’s operational future.
