Stockholm-Västerås will become the fifth airport operated from the Sundsvall centre using Saab’s remote tower technology, joining Sundsvall-Timrå, Sälen, Örnsköldsvik and Linköping. Saab said the system is already in operational use at several airports and forms part of the continuing digitalisation of air traffic control in Sweden and internationally.
Under the agreement, Saab will provide a fully digitalised infrastructure at Stockholm-Västerås Airport, including a camera tower, a digital workstation for remote air traffic control and meteorological services. The company will also take responsibility for the digital infrastructure throughout the full contract period.
The agreement uses a service-based delivery model covering both the technology and the provision of air traffic control. Saab said the structure is intended to improve cost efficiency and make it easier to introduce future technological developments.

The agreement will integrate Stockholm-Västerås Airport into Saab’s existing remote air traffic control operation from Sundsvall.
