The framework agreement, originally signed by the Czech Republic in July 2024, allows NATO allies to participate in the procurement process. Slovakia is the first partner to join, with plans to acquire up to 250 flatbed vehicles capable of container transport. This collaboration enhances the Czech defence industry and secures volume discounts for the Czech Ministry of Defence.
Under the Czech framework, the Ministry of Defence can purchase up to 872 Tatra T-815 trucks in three configurations by September 2031, based on operational needs and budget availability. These vehicles will modernise the Czech Army’s fleet, which has been flagged as outdated by the Supreme Audit Office.
“This partnership with Slovakia not only strengthens our defence cooperation but also demonstrates the versatility and appeal of our defence industry,” stated Lubor Koudelka. The joint procurement is expected to set a precedent for other NATO allies to join, fostering regional defence synergies while supporting domestic industry.
