The agreement outlines plans for joint production of air defence systems, specifically focusing on counter-unmanned aerial system (C-UAS) missiles.
The MoU not only sets the stage for the co-production of these critical defence assets but also lays the groundwork for future technological and equipment transfers. “The signed MoU sets up a framework for the joint production of C-UAS missiles. In the future, both sides expect to deepen cooperation and conduct the transfer of technologies and equipment for the production of C-UAS components,” stated Herman Smetanin, Ukrainian Minister of Strategic Industries.
This partnership comes at a significant time for Ukraine, amid ongoing challenges to its national security. Strengthening the nation’s air defence capabilities is seen as a crucial step towards protecting vital infrastructure from potential threats.
Minister Smetanin expressed appreciation for the collaborative efforts of Thales, emphasising its importance in the current geopolitical context. He noted, “I am grateful to Thales for cooperating with the Ukrainian defence industry and for its assistance in our struggle against Russian armed aggression.”
The new initiative is expected to expedite the deployment of advanced defence solutions. The Ukrainian Ministry of Strategic Industries believes this will bolster the country’s ability to defend its essential infrastructure swiftly and effectively.
