The ministry is systematically introducing AI across Ukraine’s defence forces to improve the effectiveness of operations against enemy targets. Faster analysis allows military personnel to evaluate potential threats and respond sooner.
The time savings extend beyond the initial search for a target. AI also accelerates the wider kill chain, covering the process from detection to assessment of the outcome.
Ukraine is retaining human control over decisions to use force as the technology assumes a larger battlefield role. Its armed forces follow the human-in-the-loop principle when applying AI.
Under that approach, software can detect a possible target and shorten the time required to assess it. A human operator retains responsibility for the final decision on whether to strike.
The ministry said AI was becoming an important tool in Ukraine’s effort to secure a technological advantage over its adversary. Its approach is designed to increase operational speed without transferring strike authority to software.
