Somewear Labs secures contract to develop advanced tactical communications for U.S. Marine Corps

By Defence Industry Europe

Somewear Labs has secured a contract with the United States Marine Corps (USMC) under the sponsorship of the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU). The agreement will facilitate the transition of advanced tactical communications capabilities from prototyping to production, supporting the Department of Defense's (DoD) network modernization objectives.

The contract is aimed at developing a modular, resilient tactical network to meet the needs of the United States Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM). This fielding initiative will build on years of development and prototyping, providing a secure and scalable communications solution designed for joint and partner force operations.

James Kubik, CEO of Somewear Labs, expressed the significance of the partnership, stating: “Our partnership with the Defense Innovation Unit highlights our shared commitment to enhancing the capabilities of our armed forces. This contract not only reinforces our role in supporting the DoD’s network modernization efforts but also marks a significant transition for Somewear and DIU. Together, we are transitioning from supporting tactical units to enterprise level field deployments, bringing robust, secure, and efficient communication tools to the hands of USMC operators.”

The initiative will enhance Somewear’s automated, multi-network communications fabric, focusing on both line-of-sight (LOS) and beyond-line-of-sight (BLOS) networks. The system will dynamically adapt to disruptions, enabling continuous data flow and communication resilience across all operational domains.

The Somewear Grid platform will play a pivotal role in managing and configuring the advanced network. This platform will ensure that critical data is securely delivered and prioritized, maintaining operational continuity and strategic oversight, even in contested environments. The modular open system will support unmanned assets and facilitate strategic data management, meeting the unique requirements of INDOPACOM.

Somewear Labs will focus on deploying these enhanced capabilities with the USMC, demonstrating the practical application of commercial technology in military settings. The Advanced Tactical Communications contract highlights the alignment between DIU and the USMC in leveraging commercial innovations to meet secure operational needs.

This partnership will showcase Somewear Labs’ ability to transition its technologies from prototype to large-scale deployment, ensuring tactical superiority and data continuity for USMC operators. The project also underscores the company’s commitment to rapidly delivering solutions that meet modern military mission requirements.
