Denmark joins Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) programme, strengthening European defence cooperation

Denmark has officially joined the Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) programme, becoming the fifth nation to participate in the multinational initiative. By signing the Technical Arrangement, Denmark aligns itself with Finland, Latvia, Sweden and Germany in a joint effort to enhance defence capabilities.

The CAVS programme, led by Finnish defence company Patria, aims to develop and deploy 6×6 armoured vehicles using shared European expertise and industrial capacity. Denmark’s entry paves the way for its participation in the programme’s next implementation phases.

Patria has extensive experience in armoured vehicle systems and is responsible for coordinating the development of the 6×6 platform. The collaboration relies heavily on the use of local industry within participating nations, thereby reinforcing the security of supply across the alliance.

“Patria welcomes Denmark’s swift decision to join the CAVS programme,” said Mats Warstedt, Senior Vice President, Market Area Nordics of Patria. “The constantly evolving European security landscape has resulted into a high need of multinational collaboration enhancing interoperability and security of supply between allied nations.”

Warstedt also highlighted the importance of EU support in advancing defence initiatives. “Supported by EU’s European Defence Industry Reinforcement through common Procurement Act (EDIRPA), the CAVS programme is a prime example for creating the desired common capabilities in a quick and cost-effective manner,” he added.

More than 850 Patria 6×6 vehicles have already been ordered, with over 200 delivered to date. The programme remains open to other European countries with compatible equipment needs, subject to agreement among existing members.
