This strategic move comes in response to the growing demand for maintenance services, reinforcing GA-ATS’s commitment as a reliable partner to the Bundeswehr. As a certified DEMAR 145 maintenance organisation, GA-ATS is approved by the German Armed Forces Aviation Office for base maintenance on the NH90 TTH and NH90 NTH models.
The new dock will enhance GA-ATS’s ability to provide extensive maintenance services. These include planned and unplanned maintenance work, functionality tests, component overhauls, and integrated fly-in operations. The company remains focused on delivering quality, safety, and technical excellence in all its maintenance activities.
Since 2018, the German Armed Forces has relied on the facility at Oberpfaffenhofen for the maintenance of its NH90 helicopters. Currently, the company operates five maintenance docks for the NH90, with the capacity set to increase with the commissioning of the sixth dock. GA-ATS has a long history of maintaining military helicopters, dating back to 1967 with the maintenance of Bell UH-1D helicopters until 2021.
Commenting on the expansion, Florian Rohe, Managing Director of General Atomics AeroTec Systems, said: “By opening this additional dock, we are making a strategic investment in the future whilst strengthening our position as a certified maintenance organization for military aircraft. At the same time, we are underlining our long-term commitment to the German Armed Forces – both in NH90 maintenance and in the operation of the Do228 aircraft that we manufacture.”
In addition to expanding its maintenance capacity, GA-ATS will also be creating new jobs at the Oberpfaffenhofen site. The company is actively seeking certified aircraft mechanics (m/f/d) for the NH90, production planners (m/f/d), aircraft electricians/avionics technicians (m/f/d), and certifying staff CAT B1.3 and CAT B2 (m/f/d).
“Our NH90 team is very well coordinated and carries out maintenance and overhaul work of the highest quality. In order to continue to grow, we are looking for new colleagues,” said Albert Meisinger, Head of NH90 MRO.
By investing in additional infrastructure and workforce, GA-ATS demonstrates its commitment to supporting the German Armed Forces and maintaining its position as a leading maintenance organisation for military aircraft.
